Origins
Every place leaves its mark. Origins is a postcard from the towns and cities that shaped me, Jake, the creator of Smithers. The streets I grew up in, the rivers I swam in, the landscapes that left their imprint. From the industrial hum of Newcastle to the rugged heart of Cobar, from the bloom of Grafton’s jacarandas to the art deco nature of Potts Point, this collection of swim briefs captures the essence of those places over the past few decades. It's my way of storytelling through product and visual identity.
Each swim brief in the Origins line-up takes its name from the main street of its town or city. It gives each design a tangible sense of place and story. Chances are, you’ve visited some of these places too!
Each design tells a story:
- Hunter (Newcastle): Steel-grey and blue with delicate pinpoints, echoing the industrial coast where surfers, blue collar workers, and students collide.
- Macleay (Potts Point): Indigo with refined art-deco detailing, capturing the city’s inner-edge sophistication without ever being serious.
- Marshall (Cobar): Brown and cream geometric shapes, inspired by outback grit and mining textures, stitched into Smithers to blend country with coast.
- Prince (Grafton): Bold navy and green zig-zags, mirroring the Clarence River’s channels and sugar cane fields. An honest nod to the resilience and rhythm of the valley.
Origins is a journey.
Each swim brief in this collection carries a memory, a mood, a piece of a place that shaped me (for better or worse). But I want Origins to be an open invitation to reflect on your own story. Where would you be writing a postcard from? The cities, beaches, or landscapes that define you are yours to carry forward. Slip into Origins and let these briefs become part of your personal journey.
Each pair of Smithers is tailored for performance and comfort, with quick-dry, chlorine-resistant fabrics, internal drawstrings, full front lining, and maximum UV protection. Subtle branding ensures a premium finish, letting each design’s story speak for itself.
